Discover the Benefits: Three Reasons to Embrace Cooking with Ghee (Clarified Butter) and the Transformations I Experienced

If you are interested in learning how to gently detoxify pollutants and pesticides out of your body, if you are suffering from chronic inflammation or digestive issues, or just want to improve your overall health this article is for you. These are three reasons why I will convince you to start cooking with ghee.

For those of you who aren’t familiar, ghee is clarified butter, a delicious and healthy version of butter that has been used for thousands of years and is one of the most important medicines in Ayurveda (traditional Indian Medicine).

Number One: My body started to detoxify.

What many of us don’t realize is that many of the toxins and pollutants we take into our body are fat-soluble, meaning they store in our tissues and they can’t be flushed out with something like water alone.

A solution to this is to use a fat, like ghee, as a way to detoxify. We call this lipophilic-mediated detoxification. When consumed, ghee is deeply absorbed into tissue, ghee then attaches to those trouble-causing pollutants and toxins. The toxins are then moved into the intestinal tract with the ghee to be eliminated from the body via the bowels. Pretty cool, right?

For me, this looked like weight loss, clearer skin, and improved mental clarity.

Number Two: The health of my gut microbiome improved and my digestion became normal!

Not only does ghee help to heal and repair the lining of the intestinal tract, but ghee is also extremely high in butyric acid. Butyric Acid is the number one food source of the healthy bacteria in your gut microbiome. The healthy bacteria in the gut are something we need to nurture as consuming pesticides often wreaks havoc on these healthy bacteria.

Number Three: I felt more nourished by my meals and had less cravings.

When cooking with ghee the nutrient uptake of our food is increased, giving us more bang for our buck and leaving us feeling more nourished by our meals. This is because ghee helps to carry the nutrients from inside the intestinal tract, across the intestinal wall, and into the bloodstream where the nutrients begin the process of nurturing all the tissues of our body. This increase in bioavailability is why in Ayurvedic Medicine, herbal remedies are often cooked in ghee before they are given to the patient.

Bonus: The inflammation in my body decreased.

There is a very special relationship between omega 3s, omega 6s, and the inflammatory response in the body. Omega 3s decrease inflammation, while omega 6s create more inflammation in our bodies. Ghee is an omega 3, making it an anti-inflammatory.

Unfortunately, because of the modernization of food, as a culture, we are consuming extremely high amounts of omega-6s because they naturally have a longer shelf life. The result is that it is very common is suffer from chronic inflammation in our modern day. Therefore, deliberately consuming more omega-3 fatty acids is more important than ever and ghee can be a major solution to this modern problem!

Note: Though ghee is not dairy-free it may still be a great choice for individuals who are lactose-intolerant. This is because ghee contains extremely low levels of lactose and casein (a milk protein).
