Chronic Inflammation? Why certain seed oils and industrialized food are to blame and what to do.

There is trending information lately that seed oils are bad for our health because they cause inflammation in the body.

There are 2 essential fatty acids that have a direct relationship with the inflammatory response of the body and knowing the difference is essential to your health in this modern era.

They are alpha - linolenic (LNA) and linolenic acid. These two fatty acids build all of the lipid compounds in the body and need to be consumed in equal portions as their roles are contrasting.

  1. Linoleic acid - which is an omega 6 family, This fatty acid has less space on the molecule for oxygen to attach making it more stable, making it much more appealing to our industrialized food culture of the west. Found in sources of grapeseed and sunflower oil. Linoleic acid stimulates inflammation in the body, sparking the healing process. Inflam

mation is a necessary response by the body to protect against invasion, warding off disease and to heal after injury. The issue comes in when the inflammation is chronic, meaning it never goes away.

  1. Alpha linolenic acid (LNA) - This fatty acid is 1 of the 3 omega 3.. This is found in fish like salmon, mackerel and sardines but also has the botanical sources of flax, hemp, chia, walnut and the magical medicine of Ayurveda, ghee, which is clarified butter. These sources are more difficult to store because of the molecule's sensitivity to oxygen. Meaning any products containing LNA has a very short shelf life of products containing it. Alpha- linoleic acid calms the inflammatory response and allow the cells of the body to return to normal function, pain and swelling are also eased

When chronic inflammation

in the body is caused by this dietary imbalance and over consumption of linoleic acid tissues become degenerative, overstimulated and inflamed.

Therefore these two fatty acids need to be consumed in nearly equal amounts . But because of the modern industrialized food industry and the desire to create products that have a longer shelf life, linolei

c acid is favored heavily and in modern western diets the consumption of linole

ic acids vs alpha linoleic acids can be as imbalanced as a ratio of 20:1.

To avoid this common issue of chronic inflammation ensure you are consuming enough healthy alpha-linoleic acid from the sources mentioned above.
