An Introductory Guide to the Benefits of Working with an Ayurvedic Practitioner

How to begin working with an Ayurvedic Practitioner to improve your health

In today's modern world it seems increasingly difficult to live an authentically well-balanced lifestyle. On a daily basis we are faced with many toxic chemicals, poor dietary options, and everyday stressors that our bodies simply are not meant to live with. All too often, especially in the western world, we view disease and painful aging as an unavoidable fact of life, when in reality these are products of chronic imbalances within the body. Thankfully, there is real relief. We can look to the ancient practices of Ayurvedic Medicine, which focuses on restoring and maintaining balance in the mind and body.

Working with an Ayurvedic Practitioner teaches us to live a harmonious lifestyle through Ayurvedic counseling, lifestyle modification, cleansing the body routinely, herbal protocols and undergoing Ayurvedic treatments as necessary.

By adopting this lifestyle one is able to prevent avoidable disease, heal deeply-stored trauma, rid the body of toxic build up from modern life, prevent infection and enjoy a much more graceful aging process allowing one to thrive in every stage of their life.

How Can Ayurveda Help Me?

Ayurveda, which translates to "the science of life" in Sanskrit, goes far beyond simply fixing ailments as it also aims to prevent them from forming in the first place. Symptoms of imbalance within the body may present themselves as anxiety, depression, agitation, insomia, digestive issues, hormonal issues, joint pain, inflamation, congestion, weight gain/loss, skin breakouts, and many more just to name a few.

Ayurvedic practitioners are trained to pinpoint imbalances and to categorize them into the doshas, or "functional energy" types, which flow through and at times can become trapped within the body. These three doshas are known as Vata, Pitta, & Kapha.

Through carefully guided and individualized lifestyle changes, dietary modifications, herbal protocols, deep multi-system body cleanses such as Pancha Karma, and specific Ayurvedic therapies, you can rid yourself of excess doshas and thrive.

Step 1: A Free Discovery Call

Veda Therapeutics and many other practitioners offer 15 minute discovery calls to those interested in booking a consultation and it's totally free.

Discovery calls are a great way to become more familiar with Ayurveda and learn how Ayurveda can help you specifically, while addressing any potential concerns you may have.

If after your free consultation you feel inspired to continue on, you may effortlessly schedule your initial consultation right over the phone.

Step 2: An Initial Consultation

An initial consultation can range in length from one hour to one hour and a half. Be sure to set aside enough time to be fully present during the entirety of your consultation as it will be an in-depth assessment pertaining to several factors in your life. You can expect to discuss your sleep schedule, current diet, routines like alcohol & caffiene use, past medcial history, overall mental state, digestive and elimination tendencies, lifestyle habits, and much more.

We may inquire for a photo of your tongue as tongue diagnosis is a powerful tool used in Ayurveda and is extremely useful to gaining insight on the current internal state of your body.

It is important to be thorough and honest throughout the entire consultation, as there are no right or wrong answers.

Remember they are professionally trained to help you thrive and you should feel 100% comfortable being honest with them.

After your consultation, it will take 1-2 days on average for your practitioner to review your consultation and formulate your first personalized protocol, which will aim to gracefully correct any imbalances found in your assessment. You can expect to receive a written version of your protocol emailed directly to you, as well as a follow-up phone call, in person meet up, or Zoom call from your practitioner where they will go over the protocol in depth with you while answering any questions you may have.

Your protocol will guide you with lifestyle changes, dietary modifications, and herbal protocols to address your specific issues. It may also include recommended Ayurvedic in-clinic treatments such as Shirodhara, Basti and/or Abhyanga.

Note that your protocol and its alterations to your routines may range from temporary to permenate changes depending on its nature. Each person, body, and situation is different and thus the road after initial consultation will differ for every person as well.

For those who truly want to thrive and maximize their benefits from Ayurveda, ongoing Ayurvedic counciling is strongly recommended. Energy can be stored deep in the body and present itself in layers. For example, one with a superficial vata imbalance, may find a deeper and heavier kapha imbalance to address after satisifying their superficial state. True wellbeing can be quite a dance between nature's elements and your body, but it's one well worth learning as it derives endless benefits. The deep healing available from Ayurveda is truly miraculous if the individual decides to dive deep into their healing journey.

Step 3: Follow up Appointment

After your initial in-depth consultation where you received your new Ayurvedic protocol, the magic begins. As you stay on course to your new protocol, you will begin seeing beneficial changes both mentally and physically.

It is recommended to schedule your follow-up consultation two weeks after beginning your protocol. This allows your practitioner to gage your progress in real time and make changes for you as needed and elaborate on your initial protocol. Many practitioners offer weekly counseling programs for their clients that make it easy for both you and your practitioner to stay ontop of your ever changing condition. These weekly or bi-weekly check ins add a layer of accountability that is extremely important to your progress.

As you progress, herbal protocols will change and other lifestyle modifications will be added so the patient is able to reach an even deeper level of health and balance. Ongoing counseling also adds a deeper understanding of Ayurvedic teachings and practices that will provide innumerable benefits to you through the years.

Before you know it, you are well on your journey to a better, stronger, and healthier life.
